WW2 Desert

Post  hammurabi70 on Tue Dec 23, 2008 2:02 pm

I am working on a PBEM game on this. Has anyone tried this before and got tips to share?

Paddy Griffith did several PBEM games on this topic. I'll have a look & see if I can find anything of it.

Can't offer much in the way of advice, but I'm certainly interested in playing! Send me an email if there's an opening!

Desert Kriegsspiel

I'm up for throwing on some baggy shorts and fighting flies. Count me in if it's a Pbem game.

Not quite the desert, but Ben Hutchings did an email k/spiel on the opening phase of the Tunisian campaign several years ago.

Unit level was battalion, and players typically commanded division equivalents, of which there were not many in the opwening stage. There was also a player for the French, who initially were not definitely in the allied camp.

I thought it was working well when Ben had to call time. I suspect this was due to the administrative workload, and it may be that regiment of brigade level would be better.

The maps were modifed from the Encarta Atlas, and saved as excel files (I suspect for memory reasons).

Good luck with this, and I shall look forward to playing it.

Unfortunately Real Life has got in the way of completing this. Something for the future.

Then it snows and you need to stay in. Anyone got an appropriate combat system for this topic?

Mega blitz might be what you are looking for.

It would be what I would use....

Good system but not quite what I had in mind. I will be tracking unit strengths so need some combat strength reduction system. I have a few to tinker with but none I feel satisfied with.
