Readymade Kriegsspiel "blocks"

Some readymade "blocks", suitable for printing out on transparencies and then cutting up, have been posted down the page at http://chingfordgames1.homestead.com/kriegspiel.html

The commanders names have been designed to double up as far as possible for ACW as well as traditional Prussian battles, but there are some blank "anonymous" blocks also, which can be named according to one's own preference.

Also some naval flotilla chits here.

Kriegsspiel 1924 (von Reisswitz) from "Too Fat Lardies" on page 9:

"... cavalry in ranks = 2 points equals 3 riders" (-> same on page 31 in the Points Values Table)

But on page 9 at the end we read the following: "Cavalry lose a Squadron after 60 points". This should mean a value of 2 points equals 5 riders? (2x30=60 points -> 5x30=150 riders per squadron).

Which one is right? 2p = 3 riders or 2p = 5 riders?

I'm excited, frankly, because this is the quickest I've ever managed to begin a wargaming campaign using a new set of rules. The blog posts explain what's going on, so I'll just leave the url: http://nycar.wordpress.com/ . Welcome to one and all.

Question About Distances

I notice that the distance scale problem is solved in K-S by using maps of the era, scaled to 1:7500, etc and this is all fine. My question relates to the "pace". I bought the Too Fat Lardies edition of the 1824 K-S rules - and they're generally readable and well-organized, + rep to them. Somewhere in this mass of material, I saw a reference to 2,000 paces equalling one mile. If this is the military pace - left, right, left - then 1,000 paces should be a mile, just as in Roman times. ...

Giving orders is done by writing messages like "attack or assault this or that position, or hold, or advance ..." A player can't issue an order like "fire at this or that target" ? So, is it the umpire who decides to fire?

And when two enemy infantry lines are within shooting range, who's to fire first? Blue or red? (it's clear to me that, if one side decides to bayonet attack, the defender may decide to stand to receive the ...

Were these perhaps addressed in the Reisswitz version and like some other relatively minor subjects "left out" of the 1862 version?

So here we have a brief AAR of the game and some nice images of the map used...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/16572454@N06/sets/72157614910336757/show/

Experimenting with using Power point and saving the output as Jpegs.

Seems to work OK. You need to maximize the image for the list of forces and even then not too clear but you can just about make out the brigades involved...

Sincere greetings to all!

I've been wargaming a few years now and a couple months ago I discovered the K/spiel-rules.

Within my very limited wargame-group I always have to umpire and we've only played two games (because my colleagues found it too compicated and returned to their 'Warhammer' miniatures).

Now I'm eager to try this PBEM-thing, anything from Napoleonic to WWII. And if I'll get the hang of it I'm willing to try to umpire one myself upon this very forum.

I'm dying to umpire ...

Has anyone come up with an appropriate way to print the "Too Fat Lardies" Koniggratz map in proper scale here in the US with its inherent paper options? I printed a single test page of the pdf along with the map key (one of the final pages) and was surprised to finally realize that my output was out of scale even after trying a couple of different printer options. Hello Members,

My name is Simon Sobolewski and I am a volunteer Living Historian with the US National Parks Service and Parks Canada. There are two players, one US and one CS. The object is to

Hello,

I was wondering, how did you represent the troops in this scenario (American War of Independence Kriegsspiel, 1777), or any other scenarios described on the Kriegsspiel website?

F.e. Sullivan has the 1st Maryland Infantry Brigade 800 men -> are that 2 half-batallion blocks?

What about the Light Dragoons (80 troopers) -> 1 cavalry block? (which actually represents 150 riders?)

I don't understand how the unit front sizes match your map scale ?

Hello everyone.

It looks like I will be back in the UK at the end of november again this year. Any chance of a game on Sunday 29th november? I plan to attend Dragonmeet in Kensington on Saturday and that would leave sunday open.

Reisswitz Kriegsspiel setup - what is known?

Hi everyone,

a google search brought me here

http://www.kriegsspiel.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=46&Itemid=58

where Von Reisswitz's Equipment, produced for the King, is shown. Do we have any more detailed pictures or specifications of the tiles, troop counters etc? I'm looking for something detailed enough to reproduce the set.

Cheers

Hi,

I just received Von Reisswitz rules. I read them eagerly and I'd like to organise a pbem game with my friends but I do not have some precise idea of how to do it. So, I'd like to know how you play Von Reisswitz rules by mail.
More precisely, I'd like to know what kind of gear you use (huge photocopies, emails, classical mails, jpeg, softwares...).

Hello,

The concept of "order" or "message" sent to the units is not very clear for me. I would like to know what kind of order should be used and what are these "units" precisely. I'm a bit uncertain about :

- the granularity : should the order be given to every corps, divisions, regiments, battalions ? Let's assume 2 ennemy infantery divisions are in sight each other. Do I have to give precise order to every battalions of my division with precise maneuver ...

Stumbled across this by accident, having read the term "kriegsspiel" in David

Dezter's Donnybrook. Curiosity got the better of me. I'd also heard of Paddy

Griffith from Battle Tactics of the Civil War (I have to confess that, although

I have both copies---illustrated and regular---I still love the illustrated best! )

Other than Stratego and Risk, my experiences with wargames have been limited

to computer games and PBEMs. Never played any boardgames or miniatures

games. ...

(Also posted to the TFL list.)

I'm one of those strange people who derives no joy from painting minis (actually, more like massive frustration! )

So I've kept on looking for ways to have a larger collection of Kriegsspiel blocks that wouldn't require even the (admittedly rather pathetic) amount of painting they require.

Thomas Evans is working up a means of printing and laser-die-cutting Kriegsspiel pieces onto high-density fiberboard. I've outlined what I want, and he's ...
