How many maps (and map scale)?

Post  stoffelbier on Sun Nov 15, 2009 1:10 pm

Hello,

Can someone help me out. I'm trying to play a kriegsspiel game with some friends. But it's my first time. Although i've read a lot about the kriegsspiel rules (i have the TFL kriegsspiel rules and the Free kriegsspiel rules). A have the Meckel map (scale 1:7500) and the surrounding area overview map (A3-size).
It is clear to me that both sides/players need a map, and also the umpire. But who has which maps?

Scale 1:7500 -> for the umpire and/or for each player?
Overview maps -> for the umpire and/or for each player?

Who can help me on this?
Thanks!

Regards,

My preference is to provide the players and the umpire with the same maps at the same scale. That isn't always practical due to space.

Next best: Umpire gets the full map area at the largest scale, and the players get maps covering their area of operations in whatever scale fits their table space.

The way I structure it is to give players an A3 version of the map the umpire is using and the umpire to have the biggest map possible to allow for the counters to be deployed and moved. I can see that if you had a enough space having players have their own versions would be good. The problem with this is when players split and move to different locations than the other players.

Yes, that works well with limited space! Keeping everybody on "the same map" prevents having the terrain features be very different on the two maps -- and everybody knows where the edges are. Smile This does man I'll wind up running the player's and the umpire's game all on an Index map, sometimes.
