Well this is certainly proving an education. Shocked

'World War II: General Commander' looks operational/strategic whereas TACOPS/CM is, almost direct from the title, more tactical. Perhaps a matter of personal taste as to which is better but what are these negative comments on the former?

I take it these are played over the internet so there is a certain lack of social interaction during the gaming. Or do I have that wrong? confused

My memory of the commentary on WW2CC -- which is dim, so apply the necessary salt -- is that it winds up being fairly lite. I very dimly recall criticism of the way the game handled forces for you and an inability to handle them effectively on your own. Honestly, you'd likely be better off finding a demo.

For my parts, I've got nothing against operational games, but my taste there tends to run towards Panther's Highway to the Reich/Conquest of the Aegean/(upcoming) Battles from the Bulge. (Disclaimer: I'm a beta tester -- as part of my day job.) I have used these, and a few others (Flashpoint: Germany, TacOps, and Close Combat Marines) in Kriegsspiel-inspired introductory staff exercises at various game conventions.

Odd but true, running games over the internet doesn't mean poor social interactions; in my direct experience it can be quite the opposite.
