Re: Set Up for SOWWL NAPOLEON GAMES For Kriegspiel style

Post  Uncle Billy on Fri Sep 22, 2017 12:00 am

New Features in the latest version of the mod are quite extensive. They include:
1. New sprites created for the entire 1806 Prussian army by Remus.
2. New Austrian sprites with shakos replace many of the helmeted Austrian fusiliers by Remus.
3. New Russian foot artillery and Cossacks sprites by Remus.
4. New Prussian fusiliers and British heavy dragoons with bicorn hats by Remus.
5. New renderings of ACW maps into European ones. Vegetation and all buildings have been changed to reflect their localities. They all end in 'KS'. Spanish Ant1 & PCL1, German Gettysburg 9 mile, French Manassas,by Scaupiso. French Cold Harbor, Netherlands Secessionville, Portuguese PPT, Russian Elkhorn by Mr. Digby.
6. New vegetation has been rendered to get rid of the annoying half buried troop sprites. This in itself was a large overhaul of the game.
7. A significant portion of the AI has been rewritten. Some highlights are:
Troops will be less prone to overlap. When they do, one of the units will fallback.
Troops will no longer wheel when within enemy musket range. Now if they are flanked, they will fallback.
Skirmishers will auto-deploy and move to towards the enemy ahead of line troops. When a significant portion of the brigade becomes engaged in fighting, the skirmishers will return to a closed formation. Most jagers, 95th rifles, tirailleurs will always fight in skirmish mode.
Infantry in assault columns will target enemy squares and break them. Should cavalry be nearby, it will then ride down the fleeing enemy. A brigade can be obliterated by this method in less than 5 minutes.
Cavalry will try to move away from an enemy that it cannot charge rather than stand motionless and be shot.

Good morning, Miko

Between your comment about the maps being changed and Uncle Billy's notation about the addition of "_KS" to the revised maps I was able to amend the Nap_Rus_Elkhorn map in the scenario.ini file for French Scen. #1 to Nap_Rus_Elkhorn_KS and the scenario loaded and ran perfectly.

I'll go back to work on the other map failures I previously detected.

Map fixes are done. In most cases it was a question of adding "_KS" to the scenario.ini file. In a couple of cases I had to import the .lsl files from KB Gettysburg maps to KS 125 maps.

The Prussian sprites and the scrambled British OOB promise to be bigger issues unless I can get the recent fix to work. First effort was a failure.

So in British Scenario 6 when you open the selection screen it gives you D'erlon as the corps commander.

Right then, it gets screwy.

Below D'Erlon it says

+ 9e et 11 e Voltigeur
and when you click on the plus you get:

Garde Chevauleger Lanciers Rgt
2e Btn 44e Ligne
#{WL15_FR_878
1 - 6 livres
Col. Hoffmayer
General Brigade St. Laurent

That's what I mean by scrambled. BTW, I found most of these entries scattered throughout the scenario file but not St. Laurent. I don't know where the hell it got him from.

Well I can't figure out what the problem is between the OOB files and the scenario oob files but I did try creating scenarios using both the Peninsula OOB and the Prussia 1806 OOB and both worked fine.

When I get around to it maybe I'll see if I can recreate the scenario oob for the British#6 using the new OOB. It will be an interesting project.

We shall need to either reissue the scenarios or more than likely, retire them and issue new ones as several OOBs (1815 and Peninsular) have been altered in the most recent release and this will cause the old scenarios to no longer work.

In that case open up the OOBs folder of the KS 125 mod and open the OOB.csv relevant to the scenario you are using. The scenario units MUST use units from the OOB because there is a file called OOBnames.xml stored at Layout\Media\Language folder of the KS 125 mod which uses the unit and commander names and weapon types, ammo, etc to present the unit data in the various GUI windows of the toolbar.

You need to edit scenario.csv and make sure that all the unit coded designations in columns A and B fit those given in the new OOB files.

IIRC the only OOBs that were changed in this version were all three Belgium1815 ones and Peninsula_Full. Two new OOBs were added but we have not included any scenarios that use them.

BTW you cannot ADD or REMOVE units to the scenario.csv, only work with the ones already in it. We changed the master OOBs because our original OOBs were lacking and we altered things like the light infantry component of many brigades, and several unit stats, particularly British infantry firepower so even after you have done this, the old scenarios will not completely fit the new design intent of the mod. The old scenarios will also include the old unit stats and strengths (columns R to AH of the OOB.csv).

To enjoy the new stats of the improved British infantry firepower, make a sandbox scenario using the Peninsula_Full OOB on one of the Spanish or Portuguese maps (Spain Antietam 1, Spain PCL1, or Portugal PPT are recommended if you have Gettysburg; Rio Espanol or Montana Segrada if you do not). Then you can enjoy the new OOB stats in the new Spanish terrain we've made.

In that case open up the OOBs folder of the KS 125 mod and open the OOB.csv relevant to the scenario you are using.

I was going to try noting which commanders were used for Br#6 and using the editor to recreate the scenario.oob and then copy it into the scenario and see what happens.

I haven't looked at either of those files, Justin. I'll let you know what happens when I do.

Justin, open up MyDocuments\Sowwl folder and in there open the sowwl.log file with a text editor (Notepad will do). What errors if any show in that file? You can copy/paste the file contents into a post here if any errors are not obvious to you.

Please try my suggestion first. It is the easiest way to fix the issue.

Justin, do you have a Sprites104 folder layout that looks like this? Are there are other folders in there? Maybe a second level of the KSSpritesMod 104 folder?

Okay, if you have a second level nested sprites 104 folder then the mod won't work so change it until it looks like my pic.

Makes sure the same problem isn't also in the KS 125 mod and the Supplemental Maps 117 as well.

I'll give it a shot. Something else you said triggered a memory, though. If the .xml file is screwed up because of the changes then there is no way in hell that the proper OOB is going to appear on the scenario selection screen.

What would happen if I simply recreated the .xml file using the program provided?

And, of course, I would save the original files first before doing anything.

rschilla -

The xml file is not screwed up, it has been changed to reflect the new OOBs. This is why the old scenarios (which use the old OOBs) no longer work.

"What would happen if I simply recreated the .xml file using the program provided?"

You can't as the OOBs you have now are the new ones. 'Recreating' the xml would give you the same xml.

The suggestion I made is the only one I can see that will work. We will no doubt issue some new scenarios in the future and the existing ones will be retired.

Justin - I am getting the same error as you. There is a fault with the 1815 Prussian OOBs. We'll get this fixed asap.

{in the interest of brevity, I deleted the guns but they are there.  They are not the problem.}

I've gone through all the OOBs and can't find anything that gives Gen. Vichery of the 13th Division command of Chatrand's Bde of the Young Guard.  For that matter, General Duhesme, who does command the Young Guard Division ends up with Aulard's Bde from the First Corps and  Bellair's Bde from the Sixth Corps.  This is too weird for me to figure out.

I've used the scenario editor enough to know if you select a division commander from a different Corps he will show up in the OOB BUT he will bring the units that are assigned to him by the OOB file not a brigade from here or there.  I need a glass of wine.

If you are using the KS scenario editor, then, yes, random brigades get selected for the divisions and corps. To keep the historical structure use the "campaign" option before selecting your units.

Justin - the KS Mod 125 has been updated with the fixed unitglobal. You will need to redownload just the KS 125 mod.

You are making it harder than it really is. To fix the scenarios open the master oob from which the scenario was generated and the scenario.csv file. I think only the British side was affected, so scroll down to the British side, find the name of a commander or unit in scenario.csv, find the corresponding name in the master oob. If the ID in scenario.csv, (col H) doesn't match that of col B in the master oob, change the value in col. H so it does. Now check that the value in col. K, (scenario.csv) matches the master oob col. K.

Bingo. That explains the scrambled OOB. I always use the campaign option because I usually have some historical situation in mind...at least vaguely. For example, last night I used the ten mile map to set up a facsimile of the Battle of Auerstadt using the Prussian 1806 OOB. I tried it this morning and it promptly crashed citing numerous missing graphics files in the text log. I'll have to look into that later.

I think only the British side was affected,

I'll go back and see what the Brits look like but the problem was that it was the French OOB which was screwed up. I thought the Allies looked okay but I didn't pay that much attention to them. I'll let you know.
