Midweek game proposal

Post  Mr. Digby on Wed Jul 29, 2015 5:34 pm

Hi everyone

As my social life has changed recently and I am no longer usually around on Fridays or Saturdays for our regular weekend games, I'm proposing we have a regular mid-week slot as well. I suggest Wednesday to bridge the Monday-Friday gap. It would be at the usual time so would suit European players and USA based people who are retired or can get home from school early!

We've found recently that as few as 3 players makes a very good MP co-op game vs the (murderously tough) WL AI.

We could play GB mods as well though if players have a preference.

Any supportive input to this idea goes here.

Thanks.

I can't promise to show up regularly but if I have time I'd definitely be up for a game every once in a while!

I'm definately in support of more regular gaming opportunities. Tuesday night happens to be the best option for me at the moment, as I have Wednesdays off. I would be able to play some Wednesdays, so long as I am not down to be working on the Thursday following.

Applying for another job which promises more regular hours. Very hopeful for this one.

Midweek Game Proposal

Post  PhillWP on Thu Jul 30, 2015 7:49 am

Sounds great to me. The more opportunities the better. Weekends are difficult for me and I can't always make Mondays, then we seem to have had another week flown by.

Perhaps the different slots could have a theme (though not rigid).

Martin (J) has been running Mondays for example with more experimental games or as a gentle introduction to the games for new comers. I REALLY appreciated that (and the welcome it gave) whilst trying to get to grips with losing to the AI. ;-)

We can definitely try Tuesdays Mike, it would be good to see you in our games more often. Let's make a date for next Tuesday, 4th August at 20:00 UK time.

Thanks Martin.
It will have to be some time after 8pm because I am working that Tuesday. I'll have a word with the boss lady and try to book it in advance.

I'm away on my hols the following two weeks.

I can be in TS today at the usual time if anyone would like a casual mid-week game. I don't have a scenario but we could reuse an older one or do sandbox. Alternatively we could sandbox a Gettysburg Mod.

Sounds like a plan. Usual time I presume.

How's your mouth, Mike?

Morsey and I played a simple sandbox Peninsular game on the Manassas map yesterday. It was meant to be an 1814 action near Toulouse but sadly the AI only brought a cavalry corps... Of course you only find this out after 45 minutes of wasted time. NSD so need to fix this Sad

Re: Midweek game proposal

Post  Grog on Wed Aug 12, 2015 1:22 pm

The departure of General Horatio Grog from his vacation in the 'West Country' did not go unnoticed for long by both the relentless English Press at Fleet Street and the 'Big Brass' residing at Horse Guards, alike.

His infamously extended period of domestic decadence was abruptly cut short by the precipitous growth of a large dental abscess and his subsequent decision to visit his favourite 'barber surgeon' in Nottingham. No doubt, the copious ingestion of local pastries was a particular affront to General Grog's more refined palate and it is of no surprise that Cream Tea was partaken on many a visit to Devon's illustrious tea houses and gift shops.

His travel north went with relatively little event, except for a brawl in a Bristol brothel, where the General overheard a captain of one of Her Majestey's frigates make derogatory accusations on his character and integrity. These insults being largely based on reports that he was observed as having visited Glastonbury Tor on the very day that 'priceless' religious relics were stolen from the nearby church, among them, a silver goblet (which many believe to be the Holy Grail, itself) and a silk purse containing several pubic hairs taken from the Shroud of Turin.

Arriving at his family home in Nottingham, he was confronted by a familiar gentleman dressed in dark civilian attire. It was George Scovell, a man he knew to be one of 'The Duke's' most trusted aids and rumoured, in the higher echelons of Wellington's staff, to be his most trusted spy master.

"Good day, General Grog. I trust you had a pleasant vacation?.....Quite a large swelling you have there."

"Yes, sir." replied Grog. " A most pleasurable trip, I must say, but as you well observe, cut short somewhat by this detestable affliction"

Scovell, smiled wryly. " I refer, sir, not to the unsightly lump that you have to the side of your face but rather to that suspicious bulge that you have under the breast of your overcoat"

Before General Grog could fumble himself a reply, Scovell intervened.

"Fear not my good man. Personally, I care no more for the crooked means of the clergy as that I do of our politician's endless schemes and lies. You will, however, now sign these papers for extended military service and then do what you will with your 'pirate booty'. Europe is once again alight with the Corsican's incessant aggression and it is your duty to fight for King and Country."

General Grog laughed, quite uncontrollably for some time, whilst Scovell looked on in dismay. Having settled down some and gaining enough breath to speak he grabbed the spy master by the shoulder.

"I am most thankful for your indiscretion, sir, but it has to be said that I fear that your trip here has been a both a waste of time and an inappropriate use of your renowned talents." The General then took a quill and signed the presented document, General Horatio Winston Grog, underscored.

Bemused, the spy looked on in puzzlement.

"Mr Scovell" said General Grog. " All you had to say was that Bonaparte was back. They could have sent a young drummer boy to tell me that news and I would have come running..ha ha ha ha!!"

Scovell was not amused. "Sir, you have insulted me. I am not comfortable being the butt of your amusement. I might remind you that my indiscretion is dependent on Gentlemanly respect and comes at a price."

"Just a little bit of fun, sir" said the General. " And if you have no further business please make your way out. I have to see my surgeon"

As Scovell stormed off towards the door, the General shouted " just one other thing, you enjoy this for the trip back to London"

Dipping his hand under his overcoat, the General pulled out a Cornish Pasty.

"I find them difficult to eat with my gum pain. They are very tasty. Good journey, sir"

Very Happy

Mike - with this talent you need to write some reports for the campaign. You're clearly wasted in your day job (and that's no reference to the alleged missing quantities of medical alcohol from matron's supply cupboard).

Thanks fellas

Further excerpts from 'Grog's Grail' will follow, with perhaps an early appearance from his arch-enemy General Georgia thrown in for to boost the ratings Very Happy

Mouth a lot better today thanks. Antibiotics seem to be kicking in. The dentist thinks I'll end up having to have the crown removed, which is a bugger, as I only had it done 6 weeks ago at the cost of over £400.

I'm around tonight. Looking forward to my first game in 4 weeks.

We had a crash but I think it was all my fault - my computer hadn't been rebooted for over 12 hours and I suspect it's memory was cluttered up with crap. The game was running extremely slowly with 10 second pauses every few seconds, and worse. My apologies again to the other players.

It was an interesting scenario Kevin - I would like to try it again please.

I can be online today at 20:00 as usual if anyone would like a relaxing mid-week game. New players are welcome. I don't have a scenario set up but we can sandbox-it if nothing else.
