Rifle range

Post  Ni8shadow on Mon Feb 22, 2016 7:24 am

I noticed that the max range of the rifles is the same as the smoothbores...150 yards.
The rifle optimum range is about 20yards further than smoothbores but I always thought rifles should open fire farther than the smoothbores in order to achieve max efficiency.

Hi Ni8shadow, welcome to the KS forums. Good to have you around.

Which rifle are you referring to? There are several in the game and the Baker rifle as issued to the 5th/60th and 95th Foot can shoot out to 200 yards. Other Baker rifle classes which OOB and scenario designers should allocate to other troops have lesser range because we wanted to emphasise that it isn't necessarily the technical aspects of the weapon that determines the range but the skill and training of the troops using it, so although we have several classes of Baker rifle, their ranges are different according to who they are issued to.

There's also the Swedish Karabingevar which has a range 25 yds longer than the longest-ranged smoothbore.

Actually it was the 95th I noticed with the 150 yard max range. I believe it was the Full Waterloo OOB I was playing but not sure. Ill check later today after work for sure but I do know it was always the 95th I was playing with (just now getting into the Sharpe series).

Good catch! Our OOB has the wrong weapon for the 95th. I'll get it changed.

EDIT:

Corrected the Peninsular, Waterloo_British and Waterloo_Full OOBs. Just unpack this archive into the OOBs folder of the KS Mod and answer yes to the 3 file overwrites.

Kevin - can you add these 3 edited OOBs into the next update? Thanks.
