Adjusted losses following extra penalties applied to the defeated side who had routed and captured units, the French lost a little over 2000 men, the Austrians over 15,500, with dozens of guns captured. This is a victory of epic proportions, Ney is rewarded by the Emperor with the title Duc de Gunzburg.

I am around for a game today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 BST. I can update the 1805 campaign with the post-Gunzburg losses and run more turns if people are up for that.

I also have a fun little co-op vs AI game set on the Spanish 2.5 mi map - 1808 early Spanish corps vs those dastardly invading French.

Re: Impromptu Games

Post  Mr. Digby on Sun Oct 15, 2017 12:55 am

I am around for a game today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 BST. I have the Battle of Mettingen set up to play, which is Lannes' V Corps in pursuit of the retreating Austrian army after the battle at Gunzburg, in our 1805 Danube campaign. All are welcome to play, not just our usual suspects!

Mettingen - 10th October 1805 - 3:00 pm
---------------------------------------

Situation:
---------

The main Austrian force was badly beaten at Gunzburg on the 6th and 7th. It is now in full retreat back towards Ulm. Lannes' V Corps crossed the Danube on the 8th and has been placed by Napoleon before Gunzburg while Ney's VI Corps and Murat's cavalry rest. Lannes' cavalry division under Fauconnet was attached to VI Corps for the fighting around Gunzburg and is also resting, unavailable for the moment. Seeing that the enemy is in full retreat, and despite a lack of any cavalry, Napoleon has tasked Lannes with the pursuit and marching hard, he has caught up with the collapsing enemy army just east of Mettingen.

Intelligence:
------------

An attack down the main road on Mettingen itself might contact the freshest enemy troops, the reserve corps of von Keinmayer which deserters tell us is covering the withdrawal. These troops were not involved in the Gunzburg battles. However the enemy stragglers also tell us that the other roads through Heimsheim and Malmbach are also being used by the enemy to escape. Attacking one or both flanks could net us many more prisoners as it is obvious the enemy resolve is very brittle.

We have 23,000 infantry and 46 guns. The enemy, according to prisoners reports, has perhaps 20,000 infantry, 3,000 or 4,000 tired cavalry and perhaps 70 guns, though many of these are now known to be his inferior 3 pdr regimental pieces.

Objective:
---------

Attack the enemy and do as much damage to him as possible without risking the destruction of your own corps.

Forces:
------

V Corps: Maréchal Jean Lannes Duc de Montebello (22982 Inf. 46 Guns)

Division de Grenadiers Oudinot: Général de Division Nicolas Charles Oudinot (6884 Inf. 8 Guns)

Yes, more campaign. I don't have a scenario set up though.

I am around for a game today at the usual time, 14:00 EST, 19:00 BST.

As the last campaign ended in a crushing French victory with the destruction and capture of Mack's army at least as significant as history, I feel our A Team should take command of the Coalition forces this time. Whether you guys want to do 1805 or 1809 is up to you. I like the 1805 setting more, I think because the Austrian organisation is pretty unusual, and have the Russians as well.

There is the "Big Mack" option or the Archduke Charles variant which should give a very different format to the fight.

I can play on Sunday - probably - but I won't have the campaign scenario ready. I need to do more research on the Russian OOB. We'll need a stand alone battle. I have one that needs four players if no-one else has one.

Yes, it would be good to see you. If you can get there at 19:00 BST we can get you set up with the latest files.

BTW we play with HITS - making the game a first person view with maximum fog of war. I hope its to your taste. It may be confusing at first. You can start with command of an infantry brigade.

It is indeed fully to my taste and I am looking forward to it.

Yes, that might be best suited to my limited abilities Very Happy

I suppose lots of fancy couriers and only allowed to talk if the commanders are close to each other?

Yes, we don't even use voice comms when in contact because its awkward to set up on TS. Using couriers at point blank range is easy enough.
