Has anyone out there a copy of the American Kriegsspiel by William R. Livermore?

A review of said rules from New York Times, 1898.

For some reason I have it in mind that Martin has a copy of these because they featured once in the old email newsletter.

Livermore's American Kriegsspiel

Post  Robert A Mosher on Sat May 30, 2009 7:11 pm

It can also be found online at Google Books in pdf form:

The American Kriegsspiel. A game for practicing the art of war upon a topographical map
By William Roscoe Livermore
Published by Houghton, Mifflin and Co., 1879
Original from the University of California
Digitized Nov 16, 2007
128 pages

However, the tables etc found in the separate atlas are harder to find.

Is there a way to save files on the site already as it would become a great archive if we could

Hello, Friends!

I'm new on this forum and for years I'm looking for Drill Regulations, Simulation games for army usage [Kriegsspiel above all], but I can't find many interesting things, becouse some site are bloking non-american users... As Google blocks "American Kriegsspiel...

Dear Ian, would you be so kind and put pdf of "American Kriegspiel" on any site, or working link here or.. if you would be so horrible kind [ Smile ] email copy of that book to me? I'd be very, very grateful.

Second thing I'm looking for is Totten "Strategos: An American Art of War" from 1880 [I have found many different titles of that game, but it all seems to be the same. I'm living in Poland and here is no possibility to get that book.. Maybe someone knows where to fing pdf or any format of this book? Or maybe already has that book and could share it with us?

I'm trying to find with my German friend original version of "Kriegsspiel" from 1824, it could be very interesting to have that copy. Maybe someone on this forum already has this book?

Thank You and I'm sorry for such a long letter...

I think that it's a good start for really good site of historical military simulators-wargames. The only thing I miss here is library with collected orders of battle, old wargames, more art of war materials and firing test results, marching test results.. etc... to make Kriegsspiel living simulation.

All materials, books on art of war in no longer copyrighted and possible to find in internet, but you need months if not years to find what you need. It would be great if we could build here small library with collected all that sources...

Just and idea, but as for me - very important and interesting...

And, if you allow me to add one more line;
Kriegsspiel idea is based on EXPERIENCED umpires.. Unfortunately we have no possibility to find any living officer from first half of XIXc, so everything we can do is to collect memoires, orders for troops, thoughts of great strategists of history... And.. collect every possible data from historical and some reliable modern experiments...

With Kind Regards,
Moskit

I very kind offer. Perhaps Richard could add it to the k/spiel website, where it would be permanently available? I'll copy this to him in case he doesn't see it.

I was wondering about that, I don't want to get on Google's bad side but on the other hand if you chaps over the water can't access them there must be some workaround. I even tried starting up another Yahoo group but they've limited file upload size to 5mb and most of these files are 10-15mb so that was a no go.

My offer stands till we can figure out a better way.
