Re: The Campaign for North Africa

Thanks Mr K, found it, it was the game I assumed it to be, I owned it many years ago but it was "borrowed" by someone and never returned.

If I remember correctly and I do stand to be corrected that railway line is an abstract representation of the railway line the Allies built during the war. The actual rail head is represented by a railhead marker that is moved along that rail path as the line is built, and of course can be destroyed when the Axis reach it.

Martin, I thought railroads would be a bit dramatically a-historical, but (on the primitive map I mentioned) it's not exactly clear unless I've missed a map key somewhere.
It's okay, I was just answering your question that the lines you see on any map of the N African desert in WW2 are not railways - I know for a fact!

And so another ACGer pulled in by Khryses emerges...

I'd prefer to be on the Commonwealth side, but I'm not fussy about exact role, since this'll be my first shot at anything quite this complicated.

If Baztanz is happy to take over our air power, then I think that leaves front line and rear area command open... not sure which of these would be less complicated - what do you think, Wittmann?

Oh and welcome aboard, Anacreon Smile

Quite happy to do air power if that needs doing.

Hi all,

I suppose I'm the latest Khryses ACGer who wants to do this! I'll take the rear area role for the Allies, if its still available.

Welcome aboard, Kyle - that leaves Anacreon with the forward area commands, which should please him (and suit his aggressive nature Wink).

The Commonwealth is ready, if ignorant.

They cant surrender YET, they haven't attacked us. Mind you they may have read some of the logistic rules and are working out the logistics for moving and attacking which would probably make anyone think twice about attacking, much better to sit in Bardia and eat Pasta.

Do we have access to the rules yet? I'd like to start looking at them as soon as possible.

No not yet I was just looking at some examples on the BGG site, though they do not have a full rule set. We are still waiting for that.

Just for bookkeeping purposes:

ACG All-Stars Laughing (Commonwealth):

CnC: TacCovert4
Log. Off.: Khryses
Ops. Off.: Legatus Augusti
Air Off.: Baztanz
Corps Comm.: Anacreon
Division Commanders: Unfilled

Now, for any of you, I realize that while I'll have a lot of studying to do at the outset, that once this thing gets going on I won't have a huge role in specific stuff with my main duties. It'll be more settling any team disagreements and making any hard calls that come up. I will be available to take individual actions to assist any of your specific roles if needed, I anticipate I might get called up to take command of an individual division from time to time. That's why I think I'm going to be doing a Rommel and having a mobile command center prepped, in addition to my normal stuff in Egypt.

As for plannning, anticipate that either this weekend, or the first of next week, you'll recieve a PM (let me know if via this site or via ACG is more convenient, I'll use the one I get the most response for), detailing a basic concept, and we can work on that and refining our plan until we receive our OOB.

Here or ACG is fine with me - actually, let's do here.

If you're anything like me, mister GM, you find your ACG inbox filling up far too fast, even in hiatus.

As your G4 (that's logistics officer, no?) I do think we're going to have some major changes to our plan once we see and digest the rules, but there's no harm in looking at the vassal map and doing some initial planning.

Ye GODS Baz has a lot of air units...

Well, that would be G-4 (Supply), which log typically falls under, though sometimes it comes under the G-3 (Ops). As Army Logistics officer you'd be at least an O-6 (Colonel), or O-7 (Brigadier).

Sorry, tired and accidentally muddled the O- and G- designations - realised I'd be an officer, and do (generally) know this Embarassed

O-6 in charge of Supply then - at least until we become a fully fledged army (8th) at which time we'd all likely get a bump.

Is there a link to the vassel map I am missing, all I have seen are excerpts on BGG.

Hm... with only 2 axis players it doesn't look like much of a game. Maybe Wittman should redistribute the sides evenly so then we could play!

Here you are, Air Marshal

Martin - absolutely, I don't think this one will be at all playable with only two people on one side - or indeed without two full teams.

I'm a little startled we haven't had more response from Kriegspiel, but as I say I'm happy to play in any role, on either side.

Thank you sir, much obliged - I have trouble unloading it so things could be tricky for me. Is it a movie file?

No, you just need to download vassal and then import the file from within the VASSAL program.

And that's a good point Tac.

Martin, if we're a little short on people interested in complicated, very realistic wargames here (surprisingly), would you like us to try importing some more?

I know a few of my offline friends who would likely be interested too.

I don't run this site. I am concerned though that there is no element of Kriegspiel at all in this game so really - we shouldn't be doing it on this site at all - witness the new people who have joined just to play this game - if it were my decision I'd ask that the game be discussed and played elsewhere but that is a decision for the KS site owners.

Initially I thought Wittmann was going to play an umpire in which case playing it here was valid... but it seems there's no umpire needed. Really I think Wittmann should have approached the site owners first to check that the game was a valid one to play on these forums.

I have all manner of games I'd like to play with friends online but I wouldn't dream of just suggesting it here because this isn't a general gaming site.

Wittmann also seems to be occupied elsewhere at present; you're right, let's shelve this until we hear back from someone official.

Apologies for my absence, I recently got a new job (a very good one in fact) but it has kept me very busy.

The map, rules, and pieces are available here, although this is just a scan of everything for convenience sake, the only important part is the rules.
mediafire.com ?o4b6x883bjub34q

And yes, you are right, I shouldn't have launched this off of here without asking the administration. I immagined that it would have fit well, because it is in the same vain as Kriegspiel (that of realistic simulation), but I am moving everything about this to the site listed above (and below), I hope anyone interested will join us on there.
