Topographic maps worldwide downloadable free

Post  King_Rufus on Tue Feb 17, 2009 12:25 pm

Topographic maps individually downloadable free from Mapstor. Fee charged to download full sets. Appears to be a Russian site, but maps have worldwide coverage. May however carry cyrillic legends.

In a quick check, Mapstor now seems to want $4 per map.

Individual maps still freely downloadable from MAPSTOR...

Post  King_Rufus on Sun Oct 09, 2011 11:06 am

Individual maps still freely downloadable from MAPSTOR and are nice ones from all over the world Smile , with the single drawback of having Cyrillic legends for the settlements No , though these are phonetic and easily translatable after a half hour study of the Russian alphabet study .

The site at www.mapstor.com tries to sell complete digital bundles of maps covering an individual country, including both large and small scale maps. These sets are actually very cheap, and worth considering, but if one checks the site carefully, auto-translating with IE or Google Chrome, its not too difficult to find the free download for individual maps (though James was obviously pushed for time when he did his quick check).

I have put up a sample (cropped slightly from the original) of the Narva area at http://kriegsspiel.homestead.com/Russian_maps.html - DOUBLE CLICK on the thumbnail map to see the larger deetailed version in a separate window. Satisfaction guaranteed!!
