Returning to the Fray

Post  Ike on Fri May 10, 2013 5:28 pm

The topic title says it all! Smile Due to a PC crash, my HD had to be re-formatted - lost everything except the "Owner" folders - and I had to have a new copy of Windows 7 installed. Thanks to the support folks as Norbsoft, I got my activation keys back to everything - and I've made files in "My Documents" with those numbers in them now - gone to Matrix, registered my games, downloaded and installed and got the 1.6 patch and installed that. I have the Napoleonic Mod and its associated CSV file installed, the "JustCouriersMaps 1602" mod installed and the Random6 maps mod as well. In addition, I read the posts here and made the settings and changes to SOW including the .ini file settings. Only problem now is that I am unable to select the Mods for the Napoleonic Mod and made a post on the Support forum at Matrix for that. Lots of fun - not.

What else do I need to install etc in order to participate successfully in MP games both Civil War and Napoleonic? And might I be considered as a player in the next Napoleonic campaign? I say the next because this one seems to be full with about 12 on a side. The Napoleonic Wars have been a favorite period of mine for ... well, a long time ... and it would be swell if I could participate even in a one-off sandbox battle in that era. bounce Thanks!

P.S. - The problem with selecting the Mods was that I'm an idiot. I was single-clicking - highlighting - them and then existing using the check button at the bottom of the page. All fixed now. Embarassed

Welcome back Ike! It's a pleasure to hear that you are prepared to mount your favorite steed and do battle. For ACW battles you will also need the Courier & Maps Mod. here is a link to the thread that has all the necessary info for ACW fights.
ACW Battle Requirements The link to Courier&Mods can be found there.

JustCouriers is only used for the Napoleon games. I notice that Khryses is getting a nappy game up today. I plan to be available tomorrow for a nappy battle. I am sure there will be room for you in Digby's campaign. Just let him know your interest in case he doesn't see this post. Again, welcome back.

Not the least of Ike's qualities is that he understands the path of honour and duty.

At this very moment he is riding hard to join French forces in Spain. Beware, rebel scum!

I look forward to rejoining my fellows here in the Kriegsspiel-SOW Group. And thank you for your welcome back expressions! As for the campaign, I can only do what duty and honour require of me.

"Duty"?

"Honor"?

You are most welcome back Señor, though we are saddened to see you selling your loyalty to the despoilers of our great nation. Laughing

Yes, wiki had this one, from 1792 .. he was about 22 then, I believe. Is that one in your post contemporary with his action in the Peninsular War? If so, I'll use that one.

Ah, General Llamas, I am French and my honour is French and my duty is to France, to the Empire and to the Emperor. Not to some collection of moth-eaten ancien regime nobility whose deeds of valor last occurred when they threw the Moors out of Spain and whose honour is even more thread-bare.

Brava Señor, it's good to see you getting so into the spirit of things!

And imagine how embarrassing it will be if we decrepit remnants hand your valorous rabble the defeat you so rightly deserve? Cool

To speak of victory is easy and costs nothing. To accomplish victory ... ah ... mes amis, this is the difficulty. Act first and talk of your valor after! Our bayonets, sabres and guns are unimpressed by boasts before the deed.

I don't know the date of that portrait of Count Lobau, it might be 1815 but I think it suits the man well. He looks a little wet behind the ears in his captain's uniform and long hair in your portrait. No need to change though; if you identify the spirit of the fellow with that picture, you keep it.

Mr. Digby: I believe I shall keep the younger portrait as I do identify with the spirit that it expresses. "En avaunt!" You know what I mean?? Smile

Now that I've had more time to become acquainted with this photo of M. Mouton, I begin to suspect that his expression is actually conveying a question. To wit: "You want me to go where? And do what?" Wink

Whenever I see that picture I think "Long-haired git. Get yer hair cut."
